Q What is lifestyle insurance?

A Lifestyle insurance is a type of income protection insurance that protects your lifestyle by insuring you against a loss of income.

Q  How long does the policy have to be in place before I can claim?

A  This depends on which policy you have selected. Typically this will be 30 days.

Q  Can I leave my job and claim under my policy?

A No, you are only covered if you are made involuntarily redundant or your company ceases to trade. Or if you suffer an accident or injury that prevents you from working.

Q  Can I set up a policy in joint names?

A No, joint cover is not currently available. Each person must purchase their own individual policy.

Q How long do I have wait before receiving benefits from the policy?

A After 30 consecutive days of unemployment due to illness, injury or accident then you can commence your claim

Something else that is often misunderstood is the fact that lifestyle insurance is not the same as payment protection insurance. Lifestyle insurance gives you the flexability to decide for yourself what outgoings to cover from the money that you receive if you have to make a claim. With payment protection insurance you do not enjoy the same level of flexibility.
